Looking Back At My UP CMC Days

Proud UP CMC graduateWho would have thought that I would be graduating with a BA Communication Research degree from the College of Mass Communication (CMC) in UP Diliman? I remember when I was a kid, I would dream of becoming an engineer. But UP seemed to think I was better off with UP CMC and that is probably the very reason why I ended up there. And yeah, I could have shifted to another course but the lure of UP CMC was really irresistible.

2000. That was when I entered UP CMC. I was part of block K6 (I think) and there were around 13 of us. Four (including myself) were from CommRes while the rest were from BroadComm. It was a nice group of freshies, come to think of it. And now I’m thinking just where they all are now. I now wonder how they all are doing.

Had it not been for a post from Sir Arao, I would probably not even have thought of writing something like this for my old college. Heck, come to think of it, I was never really much into the whole CMC thing. I never did hang out much with the students there. I did not even join any orgs there because I saw just how orgs like Samaskom and BroadAss dealt with their applicants. Don’t get me wrong. I just am not the kind of person who can really be part of all what CMC has to offer. I thought of myself as just one very ordinary person amidst all other future politicians, journalists, actors/actresses, broadcasters, film makers, and all that. I didn’t think I could keep up with them. They were all brilliant and I did not even shine.

Thinking of it, I should have enjoyed much of my stay in UP CMC. Well, it’s not that I did not enjoy my stay. I did find some really good friends there through my blockmates and classmates. But what I’m saying here is that maybe I should have joined in whatever was happening. I shouldn’t have shied away from what they were offering everybody. Maybe, just maybe, I would have even more fond memories of UP CMC.

I can say that I am a really proud graduate of UP CMC. I think I am interested in that student jacket that Sir Arao was talking about to remind me of how I was back then (haha, in terms of grades). What I’ve learned during my whole stay in that college, I’ve really been able to use in my journey in the real world. I may not be working in some fancy advertising company or in a huge television network but as an SEO specialist and web marketing analyst, I have been able to use much of what the college has taught me. And for that I am very thankful.

There are a lot of things that I could share about my life in UP CMC but that would mean quite a long post and I’m just about to start my shift. So there.

Now I wonder how our thesis is doing? See, a professor told us that to know if you wrote a really good thesis is when you go back after five years and you take out a copy of your thesis from the library. If it still looks brand new, you did not write a good one. But if you see it worn out already, then give yourself a pat on the back. I graduated in 2004. It’s only 2008. One more year to go and I’ll probably give our thesis a visit. :p

Mukha nga eh. Knowing CMC, hindi na yan surprise. Kung last week, hindi ako puwede kasi birthday ni Sky Pero November pa ang punta ko diyan eh. Matagal-tagal pa. Pero you’re gonna accompany me. We’re gonna look for a digicam. Hehe.

i enjoyed this post. nakaka-relate ako. :) naalala ko dati, madalas akong tanungin kung taga-CMC ba talaga ako. madalas kasi ako makita sa CAL noon since majority ng non-CMC electives ko ay andun. ako naman, i just cant grasp the notion of tambay hours. i spent most of my time sa sunken nagcu-cut ng classes. haha. freelance writer ka rin pala. same here. more power to you and more freelance gigs to us! \m/
