The Internet And Me

using the internet

Indeed, nobody knows who you are on the internet. But that still depends on the type of information you put online. If you are going to be telling everybody where you live, how they can contact you, and your current whereabouts, then it is very likely that someone will know who you really are.

This is a very important aspect of using the internet. Although it is a really huge space where you can be anonymous, it is still important that you know just what kind of personal information you will be sharing with those online. You may want some group to know about you but what you don’t know is that other people that you are not comfortable with may also be looking at your personal information. That can be quite scary.

On my end, the internet has been a good source of entertainment. It has allowed me to interact with other people and share stories and share other stuff. It has also allowed me to play games. And when Facebook came around bringing about games like Farmville, Farm Town, Fishville, Cafe World, Barn Buddy, and all that, there I was – addicted. I would plan on what types of seeds to sow, what fish to breed, or what dish to cook so that I could do other stuff and then go back and find it ready. My schedule rotated on those games.

Even when I was out with friends, I would constantly think of my plants (where they already rotting?), my fishes (are they dead already?), and the dishes that I am cooking (they may be spoiled already!). And I felt that it was not healthy anymore. Indeed, it was not. I felt that I was not using the internet. Instead, I felt that the internet was using me. And so, I left all of them and I didn’t care if I had the highest scores among my friends. All I cared about was getting my life back and taking control of the internet just as I had before.

It was not easy to let go of those games. But I decided that I had to do it. There were times when I felt like I was playing the game just because I wanted to maintain my top scores. There were times when I felt like it was too tiresome and there was no more excitement each time I played. But I kept on just because.

I am happy though that I had cut the strings. I am now free and I can pretty much do what I want to do and not have to worry about those games. I still do have Mafia Wars though but I don’t care much about it because I do not schedule my time around it. Nothing goes to spoil and nothing goes to waste with this game and that’s why I love it! :)

  1. What facebook games are addicting, and long? in facebook, what addicting games are there, not like crazy taxi, or bowling buddies or glamour parking that you can only play once, i mean like MobWars/MafiaWars, and farmville :S (i know, but its a good example), or games that you have to build your way up. any ideas?
