Pros And Cons Of Working At Home

It has already been over half a year since I have started working at home. I like doing it. But, of course, you cannot have everything. That is why there are advantages and disadvantages of working at home. You can do your freelance writing gigs and your SEO jobs at home and yet there are times when you still feel like you need an office.

Pros Of Working At Home

  1. I can work in my pajamas. I can get out of bed and turn on my computer even without having to take a bath or brush my teeth. Hey! Nobody can smell my fresh-out-of-bed scent. And I can take a bath any time I choose to.
  2. I have all my files stored in just one computer. This has been my problem back when I was working at an office. Since I have a computer at work and a computer a home, my files become jumbled that I don’t know where to find the ones that I need. And they just are not synchronized.
  3. I can be with my son. Unlike when I was working at an office, the only time I got to spend with my son was before I went to work and after working hours. Right now, I can spend time with him while I work. I sit in front of my computer while he plays in the background.
  4. You do not have to deal with annoying officemates who can turn against you any time. But of course I’m not saying that all officemates are like there. There are just special ones who just love to give your life a roller coaster ride if you are too willing to take in their whims.
  5. The hours are flexible. I can work any time I choose to as long as I complete my 8 hours of work for the day. So I can work any time my body and mind is working well. There are times when the willingness to work strikes at 3am. You can’t do that when you have to go to an office.

Cons Of Working At Home

  1. You have to have your own computer. Right now, I am saving as much money as I can to get myself a new desktop. Sure I have a notebook but that’s for backup purposes in case this desktop decides to crash. I am getting myself a new one and I hope I get enough money soon. This desktop that I am using right now is running too slow for me already. There are times when I see that I am invisible to my contacts on Yahoo Messenger when in fact I am already online. I sometimes have to go offline on Yahoo Messenger because my computer works really slow when I am online.
  2. You do not get the benefits that an office job would do. You do not have to worry about health insurance and all other government fees that you have to pay because the office does that for you. And of course companies also shoulder a good amount of those fees.
  3. My room becomes an office. So I work where I sleep. Good thing there is no TV here or else I have to deal with that too.
  4. You have to face the heat. In my case, my room is located in a place where the sun shines really bright during the morning, really strong during noon, and really glaring during the afternoon. Anywhere the sun goes, my room is not saved from its rays. So there. I am even feeling sorry for my electric fan because it is at work for over 75% of the day’s hours. This is also why I am thinking of getting my own office (read: a house for rent) but that would mean added expenses on my end and that is something I can’t afford right now and something that is just not practical. So I make do with this stifling hot room.
  5. I do not talk to anybody because there is nobody here to talk to. Well, my son’s here and so are other members of my family. But compared to working in an office, you can ask questions to your officemates easily. Maybe even share a joke or two during the working hours.

Right now, I do need a lot of help in improving my working situation. I know I chose this kind of job but it’s better than none. You can help me out by donating some moolah my way. Or you can give me the things I need want instead of the cash. Here’s the list:

  • A good working space. Got a home you can lend to me, that will be great. Wehehe.
  • A good working desktop. Something that can handle all my files and all my applications.
  • An ergonomic office chair. My computer chair is not supporting my back anymore and my back really hurts after working for hours. I have scoliosis already so I don’t want to worsen my situation.
  • An air conditioner. That will really help a lot. I can’t concentrate when the sun’s shining on my room the whole time that it is in this part of the world.
  • Some help? Wehehe.

You can contact me for your donations. I am sure you are more than willing to help a work at home mom like me. :D
