A Dozen Firsts
For the past weeks, I have experienced some firsts. The first ones didn’t seem that important until I have realized lately that I have had some really good firsts. When you do look at them all together, that is when you realize just how good they all do make you feel.
It’s really nice thinking about your firsts. Well, I sure do. It does not matter if they are mistakes or adventures or any simple thing. My list includes a reunion, visiting places, doing something new, trying out something, and changing preferences. These are mine.
First high school reunion.

Nel, Ann, Peachy, Mox, and Elaine
I graduated from high school in 2000. And for the first time after eight years, we had our very first batch reunion. Although the reunion was not attended by at least half of our class, it was still a good one because we were able to see and catch up with old classmates and friends. It was a first but it sure will not be the last. I am excited about this year’s reunion. I sure do hope more classmates will attend. That will be even more fun.
First time to go to Buang.

And those are the 116 steps you have to conquer.
Buang is a place in Tabaco City. And it is well known for this resort which has two (or was that three?) swimming pools. It is also famous because the water in the pools are clean and fresh and are from a spring. Plus, to get to the main resort, you will have to go down 100 stairs. The thing though is that you have to climb up those stairs when you have to go home.
I only knew of the place as Buang. But it really was not. Buang was the place where the resort was. The resort was named Dhio Endheka. Olops counted the steps and there were 116. And I really felt out of breath before I was able to reach the top step. And for the first time this year, I suffered from arthritis. :p
First time to go to Mayon Resthouse.

A foggy, windy, and rainy day in Mayon Resthouse. But who cares? I had fun.
Since I was a kid, I have heard of stories about the Mayon Resthouse. They say that it is a pretty nice place to go to. And old as I may be, it was the first time that I had reached that place.
Anyway, we trudged to the Mayon Resthouse and we thought it was really rainy. But see, what we thought was heavy rain was really a fog. A really dense fog. Like the place was already up in the clouds. And yes, it was drizzling and the rain was so fine I didn’t seem to feel it at all. But the pictures turned out great and that was what’s important.
Oh by the way, the Mayon Planetarium can be also found there in the Mayon Resthouse. We didn’t get to see the 25-minute show because it was almost closing time.
First time to look at old photos. Again.

With UP Ibalon orgmates during the Padunungan 2003 in Sorsogon State College, Sorsogon City
Well, see, I sure have been looking at old photos before but this time it seems like a first time because of the length of time that has passed since I did that. So I guess it still counts. :p And what was interesting was that I found some really old photos I have seemingly ‘kept’ (read: misplaced). And then I found this CD which was full of photos of me back in college. Oh how thin I was back then.
First time to take a visit in one of the new private rooms in Aquinas Hospital.
My friend, Jho, was confined for a day in Aquinas Hospital. And while she was there, I decided to give her a visit with two other friends. She was already okay by the time we visited her and she was just waiting to be discharged.
Anyway, it was Jho’s first time to be hospitalized (yes, hers. Not mine.) and what was the first for me was to take a look at the new private rooms. Though the rooms are quite small, they are really clean. And they now have flat screen TVs there instead of those huge bulky ones. Aside from that, the hospital now has free WiFi! They don’t supply computers or laptops though. And yeah, to get to the rooms, you can now ride the elevators.
First time to sing in front of a crowd.
So that was how it felt to sing in front of a crowd. Nobody knew me except for my two companions, Ate Pinky and Kuya Vinnie. I sang two songs in this restaurant/bar in Legazpi City named Tago-Tago. And I didn’t care. :p
First time to sell a camera.
Yes. I am now selling my pink Samsung point and shoot camera. Because I need the money. To buy myself a new one. :p Any takers? Just send me an email (peachy underscore upd at yahoo dot com) or an SMS.
First time to love beer.
I have never been a beer person. I love what they call the hard drinks – gin, brandy… But I don’t know what happened. I now love beer. Not that my tolerance for beer has gone up. It’s just that I love the fact that I don’t get headaches with beer. And yes. No puking as well.
First time to see my son, Sky, not being shy with other people.
Around a week ago, I visited a friend who lived near our house. She was preparing to go out with her family and she asked Sky to join them go to Tabaco. My son first said that he did not want to go for various reasons. Then my friend’s son, Lucky, asked Sky to play with him. They played for just a few minutes.
When it was time to go, I asked Sky to put on his cap because we were going home already since my friend also had to leave. My friend then asked my son again if he wanted to join them to Tabaco. My son immediately said yes and then went ahead and took a seat in the vehicle. Okay….
I had a hard time explaining to Sky why we could not join the trip to Tabaco. Phew!
First time to be invited to a conference.
Well, I’ve been invited to various conferences already and I have attended quite a number. But a search engine marketing conference? That is something new. And something that I am really not looking forward to. See, I was invited to be a resource speaker. I don’t know what Mayan did but suddenly I was one of the speakers.
Here’s the thing: I am not a good public speaker. And I have no idea what to share with the gurus and the industry experts. I am just nobody and I am a speaker? Who would believe me? Just wish me luck and I hope only a few attend. That’ll help me feel less nervous. The SEM conference’s still a few weeks away and yet I am really, really, really nervous already just thinking about it.
First time to use Google Chrome.
Internet Explorer was my first browser. And when I discovered Mozilla Firefox, I switched. And now there is Google Chrome. I am not really a person who jumps in and tries something out because it is new. So I tried it out quite late.
So what’s my take on this? Well, Google Chrome is fairly a simply browser to use. And what I like about it is that it’s so spacious and there is less clutter. Plus, I get to see what sites I have been visited frequently each time I open a window or a tab. Now I can just click on the screenshot of the site and I’m good.
What I don’t like about Google Chrome is that when I click the exit button on the right hand corner, it automatically closes down even if there are two or more tabs open. Unlike Mozilla Firefox which asks you if you would like to close the window even if there are two tabs open.
First time to take care of a plant.

My potted plant from Mayon Resthouse taking a quick rest at my friend’s table before it found its way to its current location outside our house.
When we were in the Mayon Resthouse, Olops and his cousin, Chino, bought those potted plants that the ladies were selling. There was this one lady who kept asking me to buy some of hers because the two guys had already bought plants from the other vendors. I really was not planning on buying any because I have no green thumb and I really have no interest in taking care of plants but she kept on asking me to buy her plants. And the two guys were also prodding me to do so so that the lady will get some income for the day and so that I will have something to take care of (I was originally planning on giving the two potted plants to my friend).
And that’s what happened. I bought two. I gave one to my friend. And the other one’s sitting outside our house right now and I don’t know if it has received any form of water since I bought it.
So now you’ve got my dozen. What’s yours?

Haha, can’t believe I’ve been to Mayon Resthouse twice! Sometimes, we just have to take a few steps away from home. Happy new year, Peach.
You’re so right, Nan. I wanna go back to Mayon Resthouse but I wanna be there when the sun’s shining. I wanna see how the whole place looks like. :p Happy New Year to you too.
I’ve been to Mayon resthouse too just last december and I had the same experience with you Peach. It was raining and foggy that day but I had fun.I also want to go back there to see what I missed that day, the view of Mayon and the city.
I also missed our reunion and seeing your picture makes me want to see you all. Too bad, I attended a family affair that night. hopefully, there will be part two on december.
Hi Yna,
Since we deemed the reunion to be a success, I guess there’s gonna be another one next year. I hope you’ll be able to attend. We missed you last time. More photos of the reunion available at my multiply account.
first time to Buang and Mayon Rest House? what took you so long to visit these places? hehehe
Let’s just say that I was just not in Legazpi during those years when everybody was exploring these places. Hehe.
Thanks for sharing your experience when you went to Dhio Endheka Spring Resort. It was indeed
an honor posting the picture in your blog.
The resort got its named from a greek word Dhio Endheka meaning two eleven. Feb 11 is the birthday of
the owner. Hope by this time when friends ask you “what in the hell the resort got its weird name”.
For sure now you have the answer. Once again, thank you very much for visiting the place and hope you would encourage your friends to visit Buang. Best regards, Ben
Hi Ben, thanks for dropping by my site. And thanks for enlightening us about the weird name of the resort. Hope to be back there soon.
