Ingredients For A Successful Poker Night

playing cards

Well, we actually did not play poker. Real poker, I mean. But we did play with cards. And we played Pusoy Dos and Tongits. We tried to do it the hustler way but we sure did not quite take on the rules. So we ended up with playing cards and just betting 25 centavos each round. Whoever wins, gets to take the money. But that was it. But nonetheless, it was fun.

But I’m getting ahead of the story.

It was last Saturday and the four of us decided to go on ahead with our usual Saturday night bonding. Talie, Julian and I met at the mall to get some things. Then Julian decided to buy some fresh tuna. We went to the Legazpi City market and it was a first for Talie and me. I actually do not like going to the market (Hey! Blame me if I don’t like the smell, okay?) but I did. But I don’t think I’m up for another trip there soon. We bought some fresh tuna and some of the other ingredients (which I could not remember) needed in making kilawin. Julian wanted us to taste his kilawin. So there.

making kilawin

After that, we went to his place and they prepared the kilawin. I am not a kitchen person (the only thing I can cook is carbonara) and I hate the smell of fish, lemon, soy sauce, and other things from the kitchen on my hands. I don’t know why but it’s just one of those things that I just don’t like. So while they prepared our dinner, I decided to sweep Julian’s floor and fix his makeshift bed. Yeah. That was my contribution. Hehe.

After a few moments, everything was ready. Olops also arrived to join us for dinner. Julian opened a can of Spanish style sardines. We dined on all those (plus some really large meatballs from the the fridge). Well, let’s say the dinner was uneventful but left us really full.

We then cleared the table and off we went to prepare for a night of card games. It started with some tricks being shown. Some corny enough. Some I still need to learn. But whatever. Then we started to play Tongits. But since we were not really much into betting, the group decided to play Pusoy Dos instead. As I’ve told you earlier, whoever wins gets to take the prize money. There was no pot money and all that. Hey, it’s just a game and not really to win grand amounts of cash. Plus, we were only betting 25 centavos for each round. So just imagine how much you can take home in a night.

Somewhere, we decided to go for beer. Well, Talie decided that we needed beer. We bought some and stored them in the fridge and continued playing. We were really laughing because we said we looked like all those grown ups playing card games and drinking beer. Hehe.

poker night with friends

I was the one with the most losses. I think I spent over 7php that night. Haha. But who cares? I had fun. I only won a game and Julian gave me a balato of 1php because he won the last game when we all bet 2php each. The stakes are just so huge. Phew.

My Monopoly game board is already there waiting for us to play with it. I’m also thinking of getting the elements needed for Bingo. Well, Saturday is not just alcohol night anymore. It is bonding night plus alcohol night plus fun night with all these BORED games. Hehe. But at least we’re doing something different.

    Hi Jirl!

I do like kilawin and the taste of onion, garlic, black pepper, and everything else. It’s just that I hate the smell on my hands. Hehe. I know. Kaartehan. But anyway, it was really yummy.

I’ll be in Aquinas tomorrow. I felt so sleepy today that I I decided to stay at home instead of attending the SEMcon. Hehe. See you tomorrow, then! :)
